Scheduled to launch in the latter half of 2023, Army of Fortune stands as the flagship game in the mobile gaming realm. This game boasts a real-time deck-building (RTDB) experience, allowing players to assemble and command their armies. Thanks to blockchain tech, players can genuinely own their in-game assets.
Army of Tactics: Strategy Meets Real-time Gaming
Army of Tactics represents the first mobile game to adopt an Auto Chess style while focusing on real-time strategy. Players can form armies and upgrade units and abilities, making it an engaging endeavor for strategy game enthusiasts. This game was unveiled in the first half of 2023.
Game Mechanics
The current game, Army Of Tactics, is a 1v1 format where each player has 30 seconds to deploy heroes onto their territory. These heroes consume a certain amount of ‘mana’ to be placed. Players strategize in real time to defeat the opponent’s team, constantly adding characters to the battlefield. Throughout the game, you can see your opponent’s heroes, adding an element of challenge. For instance, smart timing can be a strategy, placing heroes in the last few seconds to catch your opponent off guard. The game features various types of heroes, including flyers, tanks, ranged attackers, and melee fighters that engage up close. Players need to think critically about their strategy to topple the entire opposing team. Matches are played best out of three, with the winner earning trophies and AFC tokens. Additionally, players have the option to upgrade their heroes. This introduces another layer of challenge, as you might face an opponent with a higher-level tank or other character. Yet, every match remains winnable, keeping the competition fierce and engaging!
When we talk about the game Army of Tactics, which is part of the broader Army of Fortune metaverse, its journey from Closed Beta 1 (CB1) to Closed Beta 2 (CB2) has been significant.
CB1 was primarily a trial run, giving players a taste of what was to come. This version mainly provided practice-based challenges, which in themselves were already demanding. With the release of CB2, the game has seen significant changes and innovations. Particularly notable is the new island mechanic, offering players the opportunity to progress and achieve new rewards. As players win matches in the game, they collect trophies that can be used to unlock new island regions filled with fresh challenges and surprises.
Furthermore, CB2 has introduced players to many new features, such as a marketplace and the ability to craft and mine materials. These materials can then be converted into AFC tokens in the marketplace. Goal lists, like “Win 10 games,” guide players in achieving the next island areas.
An interesting addition is also the new character, Blick, who remains a rare sight in the game. However, we believe that in the future, many players will encounter this mysterious character. An even more challenging game mode, Elite Battles, allows players to face off against each other using AFC tokens as stakes, adding excitement and strategic depth to the game.
A Closer Look: Island Mechanic
The island mechanic introduced in CB2 has brought diversity and depth to the gaming experience. Each island offers players new characters, challenges, and strategic elements as they navigate through its complex environments. The development of this mechanic has been ongoing, and there are certainly many more improvements and refinements on the horizon. On the islands, players can craft and mine materials, which they can then convert into AFC tokens in the marketplace. Each island is unique, and players are always met with new challenges and opportunities as they progress in the game.
Personally, the game’s transformations have been significant, especially considering we’re talking about an open beta version. The Island System, in my opinion, has been executed brilliantly. It consistently injects a unique layer of excitement into the gameplay as players eagerly anticipate what the next ‘level’ holds for them. Blick, the new character in the game, is still a rarity amongst players due to its limited availability. However, I’m confident we’ll be seeing more of Blick in the future, along with the emergence of many other heroes.
Community Wishlist: Future Game Features
Direct feedback from players suggests they want to see:
Shared match replays.
Friend-adding feature and community (Clan) creation.
A peek into other player’s islands and possibly claim materials from friends’ islands.
Clan Wars.
Character removal after placement.
Cinematic introductions for characters.
